Definition

If someone is bang out of order then they are behaving in a way that is completely unfair or unacceptable.

For example – “John was bang out of order last night. He shouldn’t have been so rude to the waiter.”

Clip 1

The first clip is from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry is upset because he has just been criticised and called a liar in front of other students by a character called Seamus. After the confrontation, Ron tells Harry that Seamus was “bang out of order.” So, he called his behaviour unfair and unacceptable.

Clip 2

The second clip is from the British comedy The Inbetweeners. The character who is wearing the glasses, Will, makes a joke to his friend Jay after he says he never goes out with girls he actually likes. In a previous episode Jay’s girlfriend had broken up with him and he was devastated and cried. Will reminds him of this in a joking way but the other two characters tell Will that his comment was “bang out of order.” (unfair and unacceptable).

Clip 3

The third clip is from the series The Virtues. In this clip the character Joseph is apologising for an angry outburst he had at the character Craig earlier on and this is why he says that he was “bang out of order.”

Clip 4

The last clip is from the series Gotham. Alfred is heavily critising Bruce Wayne for involving Selina Kyle in a very dangerous mission that ended up going wrong. This is why he tells him that he is “bang out of order.”
